BLACKLIST- LOCATIONS HIDING REDZONE

Thanks to a combined effort of Greenzone and Cool Viewer, we can now tell with 100% accuracy if a location is using Redzone.

It's bad enough to use Redzone, but I believe it to be a new level low to deliberately deceive people by hiding it.  It's obvious those doing this can't be trusted.  So, I've decided to make a Blacklist- a list of locations intentionally hiding Redzone from Greenzone HUDs to deceive us.

Shame on you!

  1. Now this is a list I like. They can hide RZ from our HUDS (showing they really don't care about anybody else but themselves) but they can't hide in the media stream. So glad the TPV's are giving us the option of seeing what others are trying to do.

  2. So what do you click when u get this message? I think SL viewer 2 blocks this error message never seen it..

  3. This extra Media Security patch is currently in the Cool Viewer and the Dolphin viewer, so unless you're using one of those you won't see it. When I get the pop-up, I hit deny, so it can't harvest my IP address or try to link alts up with me. You could also Blacklist it, but I don't so I'm able to continue checking sims.

  4. there are still so many places with it-last night whilst looking on SLM for a massage bed I decided to tp to the places as they seemed too pricey to just purchase without trying them. Sure enough both had redzone and my greenzone hud immediately went off. I actually have been a bit fortunate that over a year ago my viewer somehow lost the media plug in for linux-i never bothered to look for it so it appears this sort of was a blessing in disguise. Still being so unaware of all of this until it came up in the forums was quite distressing. Thanks for your efforts Theia - Ange

  5. I found a sim that uses RedZone - how do I report it to this Blacklist ??

  6. Hi Undine! I'm only Blacklisting places that intentionally hide Redzone- meaning they hide it with the intent of making it so the Greenzone HUD doesn't pick it up. If you know a place hiding Redzone (or suspect they are) feel free to send me an IM in-world. Thanks :)

  7. Wait so.. Just because somone has a media URL to a Website that means they have redzone?
    What a moron
Any place can have a web link to Zanimator Instruction site eh?
Go blow it out yer ass

  8. No shomesumptin, though your display of ignorance is staggering to say the least. There is a specific URL that Redzone uses (as seen in the screen captures above). It has nothing to do with Zanimator or anything else besides Redzone.

You know the saying "Better to look a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt?" You just removed all doubt. Congratulations!

  9. As far as I know--and I can say this because I work for Solace Beach Estates--there's nothing on the main sim that is either owned by zFire or says RedZone.

Now, does that mean we have a tenant who's trying to hide RedZone usage? As we don't have any official policy--yet--for or against RedZone, that's a possibility. All I can do is talk to the owner.

  10. Hi Emilly. It wouldn't be owned by Redzone or zFire, in fact because it's hidden it could be called just about anything. It also must've been placed by someone with rights within the group to do so.

  11. Do you actually show an owner when you do your surveys? I spent two hours looking today, poring over the entire sim; while it could be called something else entirely, nothing that's owned by the staff or sim owner seems to be anything but what it says it is. Ayesha says she doesn't have RedZone installed on the sim. So we're back to possible tenants--who do have rights to set things out in the merchant group.

  12. I spoke to the owner of Solace Beach today, and I went back again as well. Once again, right on the landing zone, I got the media request for Redzone just as pictured above. I even took another screenshot and passed it to her so she could see it for herself. In order for it be attempting to send me a media request, the person who placed it there must have land rights. I offered her suggestions as to where to find it in the event it is a mistake, and I also offered my help in finding it. I've not heard back since then. I will wait and see what happens.

  13. Yes and no, and I found it (with the help of a friend of mine)!

Here's what happened, though, and this is an even scarier exploit. Early on, Ayesha did invest in RedZone. She stopped using it a few weeks in, though, because it didn't do what she thought it could do--namely, track down and evict copyright infringers. (Who's really surprised, here?)

BUT, because she'd had it at one time, the device set itself as the home URL on the land.

Clearing the saved URLs cleared that particular media stream, but who checks the media stream when they're having a problem with RZ? I didn't--I checked the land, for over three hours, painstakingly porting to every prim that sounded in any way vague or suspicious and looking it over. And found nothing.

I tested it on my GreenZone HUD--2.5--and had that same friend port back in after restarting the sim, and neither of us found a thing. I would strongly advise you to check it out as well--but if we're clear now, please please please can you take Ayesha off the ban list?!? She's good people, a great boss, she cares about her sims, and it's killing me that she's on this.

  14. Wow I learned something new today, too. I didn't realize it could even change the land URL. Thank you for the update, Emilly. I've taken Solace Beach off the list. I'm truly glad it was genuine mistake and I wish the best to you, Ayesha, and your business.

  15. Probably beating a dead horse, but according to http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/general-sl-discussion/56460-support-business-owners-who-have.html#post1182943 , Ayesha was not after copyright infringers, but wanted the alt detector and an IP ban feature to protect her free L$ and free items offers.

I'm not sure if simply stopping those giveaways would have been the more effective measure, instead of feeding data to those people whom you meet in the Redzone forums. It would also be interesting if she had any positive effect from using that stuff - after reading her reasoning in that posts, I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth and probably won't recommend Ayesha's offers as a good rental choice ever again.

  18. You have to ask your self if you really have the money to fight false accusations and slander in court... Is it worth the cost of having to hire a lawyer and lose.

  19. Why did you Delete my Post Theia? The truth huts? there was nothing vulgar? Can't handle the truth?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I didn't delete anything, however the blog software marked 4 of your rapid fire posts as spam. You are the one that apparently can't handle the truth. You want to have your Second Life password hacked by zFire? Have fun with that. Media filters don't lie- and please by all means take screenshots for Flickr. That's one more place to get the word out what privacy violating POS Redzone is :D
